Background knowledge -Slavery lasted from 1600 to 1865 The historical issue which is illustrated in the cartoon is the slavery around 1600 and 1865. It's about the slave trade with the Afro-Americans which the white Americans managed. The Whites got the slaves from Africa and brought them to plantations in the USA. There the black people had to work under extremely bad living conditions. They hadn't a right to freedom, no they had no rights at all. The white people were cruel to the slaves, they abused them physically, exploited this humans and punished them to make them obey and enforce the dominance by the whites. The slaves could be a domestic slave or field slave, but the two possibilities had the same cruel base - they had to live in bondage.
