music, leaving their rubbish behind them and talking in their foreign language so no one can listen who they stab next. David: Mhm Colin: And they are so unpolite, no respect for the older ones, the ones who built this country and made everything possible that they use today. We should have stricter immigrant rules! David: yeah, well. My parent were immigrants too, so you see, we immigrants can develop, get raised well and get a good job and pay taxes as well. Colin: stands up and leaves British History Trade Triangle: UK-Amerika-India History Timeline Scotland, England, Wales were independent countries England became dominating the others London was founded 50 BC 1301 English King makes son prince of Wales -> leads to Wales integration 1535 England brought Ireland under control, protests in the countries 1542 wales got annexed by England 1604 Scotland got annexed by England 1801 "United Kingdom of Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales) and Ireland" Union was created ● 1919-1921 Irish war of Independence (Ireland into south and north Ireland (Still part of England) divided) 1998 Ireland, Scotland, Wales got back their political powers (own law-making institutions) devaluation June 2016, the UK voted to leave the EU (Brexit) ● ● North-South Division in England North-South division in England because of climate, landscape, mentality, or wealth Northern People: often poorer, more working-class people, more warm-hearted Southern People: richer, middle class, white collar worker, British Empire; Analysing a caricature The cartoon was published in the 1930s in the satirical newspaper "Punsh". Addressed to the reader of the "Punsh" and the British people Criticises the exploitation of other countries from the British Empire to help running it Description: Three well-dressed man and one woman who look western are sitting around a table playing cards. Flies are flying around the lap that is hanging above the table. A black man is walking in holding a plate with drinks. In the background there are two tents with flags on top, other people and tropical plants. Analysis: The author makes sure the viewer of the cartoon gets his point that the people sitting around the table are rich, British people by covering them in expensive cloths, smoking cigars, and an arrogant facial expression. The ironic of the picture is stated through the contrast of the rich people on the table and the dirty, hot, tropical camping atmosphere. The black guy coming in with drinks and serving the rich people on the table is a metaphor for the inhabitants the British empire exploits in their own country to make profit from them. The flags on the tents are flags from the British Empire which strengths the interpretation that the British Empire invades other countries. Evaluation: The message of the picture is clear and well made. The cartoon is playing down the realty happening in the invaded countries because the invasion and abusement of the invaders was probably more brutal.
