Cloning Techniques and Development
This page illustrates the differences between normal development, reproduktives Klonen, and therapeutisches Klonen.
Normal development involves the fusion of sperm and egg to create a zygote, which develops into a blastocyst and eventually an adult organism.
Reproduktives Klonen aims to create a genetically identical organism:
- An adult cell's nucleus is transferred to an enucleated oocyte.
- This creates a nuclear transfer zygote.
- The resulting blastocyst is implanted in a surrogate uterus.
Therapeutisches Klonen follows a similar initial process but diverges in its goal:
- The nuclear transfer blastocyst is used to derive embryonic stem cells.
- These stem cells can be differentiated into various tissue types for medical applications.
Example: In therapeutic cloning, stem cells could potentially be used to grow replacement organs or tissues for patients, avoiding rejection issues.
