Typen der Charaktere und der Charakterisierung als auch eine Anleitung zum Verfassen einer Characterisation und useful phrases
When dealing with a novel, film or play, you will often be asked to analyse or examine a certain character and his/her behaviour, relationships with others etc. To write a characterisation, you need basic vocabulary. Types of characters ● ● Types of characterisation ● • Characterisation protagonist/hero/heroine (main character) antagonist (another important character who is in conflict with the protagonist) flat character (does not change, has no depth) round character (changes, is presented in detail) ● direct characterisation: The narrator or a character tells the reader explicitly what a character is like. indirect characterisation: The reader interprets a character by what the character thinks, says, feels or does, and how he/she interacts with others. Step 1: Preparation Collect any relevant information given in the text about the character: personal data (name, age, gender) and appearance what the character says/does/thinks (main traits, behaviour, mood, views, language...) what others say (or the narrator says) about him/her What do your findings reveal about the character and his attitude towards others? Do his/her characteristics or the reader's view of him/her change in the story? Draw conclusions and use evidence from the text (quotes and lines). Step 2: Writing Introduction Briefly present the character (basic personal data and outward appearance). Say what his/her function/role in the story and how he/she relates to the other characters. Body Describe the character's traits, behaviour and development, providing details...
