Characterization of Lutz Rosentreter in Corpus Delicti

The following characterization refers to the character Lutz Rosentreter in the novel Corpus Delicti. Lutz Rosentreter is a lawyer (see page 5.69) who has a "Schlaksiye" figure (page 106) and straggly hair (page 106). He appears clumsy and somewhat awkward. Mic Holl describes him as a lovable fool (page 15.722). Additionally, he is sincere and modest (page 99). He refers to himself as a man who stands in the background (page 172), probably because he is not successful and was not a brilliant student (page 97-2). He generally rejects the idea of using personal motivation for a case (page 110), although he has doubts about Mia's decision to withdraw after she killed someone (page 15.109). Furthermore, he has a personal motivation for opposing the method: he is immunologically incompatible, which is why he loves a woman with whom he cannot have children (page 112). This weighs heavily on him, but he considers his story to be an immunological triviality (page 11B).

Nevertheless, the two of them fight for the same cause. Rosentreter wants to put a stop to the method (page 115) by proving Moritz's innocence. He succeeds in doing so (page 167). After that, Mia and Rosentreter pursue very different strategies. Rosentreter wants to take it slow (page 173), but Mia spreads a newspaper ad attacking the method (page 1866). This leads to a crisis in their friendship. Previously, when Mia was in trouble, Rosentreter supported her in everyday life (page 106) and even offered her a place to stay (page 220). Now, however, he begins to hate her because she did not follow his advice (page 221). He feels overwhelmed by the situation (page 222), but still does not want to give up the fight (page 225). Ultimately, he ends Mia's defense in court, calling her a danger (page 253) and confessing his opposition to the method (page 253).
