Mediation: Correct Text Formatting When writing a mediation, it is important to consider the appropriate text format, such as email, letter, or article for a school newspaper. It is also important to consider the audience and use formal or informal language accordingly. The most important information should be presented objectively, without personal opinions. When addressing someone formally, use "Dear Mr./Mrs." and when addressing informally, use the person's first name. In the introduction, mention the topic and state that the text is in German. For example, "I found this German article about..." or "My talk/presentation/report will be based on an article I have recently read...". In the main body, do not provide a word-for-word translation. Instead, maintain the same order and use neutral language. Avoid personal opinions and use the same tense as the original text. Use phrases such as "in the first/second/third paragraph the author talks about/highlights/criticizes/tells the reader" or "the author points out/says/presents/shows...". Use "furthermore" to add more information. In the conclusion, do not provide a summary or personal opinion. Instead, provide a one-sentence summary of the topic. End the mediation with "Yours faithfully" if the recipient is unknown or "Yours sincerely" if the recipient is known. Written Discussion: Correct Text Formatting When writing a discussion, introduce the topic and the problem. For example, "Nowadays it is often discussed if... Some people are convinced that... but others...". Use the sandglass principle in the main body, where you present strong arguments against your standpoint, followed by strong arguments for your standpoint. Use keywords such as "firstly", "secondly", "moreover", "furthermore", and "in addition". In the conclusion, summarize your standpoint without introducing new arguments. For example, "To sum it up, all in all, you can say... To put it in a nutshell...". Enquiry: Correct Text Formatting When making an enquiry, introduce yourself and state your interest in the recipient's products or services. Mention where you saw their advertisement or stand. State your aim and what you are specifically looking for. For example, "Our aim is to... We are looking specifically for items... We are looking for a supplier of... We are interested in your new range of...". Request samples, catalogues, and price lists. State the required delivery time. End the enquiry with "Thank you in advance! We are looking forward to hearing from you soon." and "Yours faithfully" if the recipient is unknown or "Yours sincerely" if the recipient is known. Email: Correct Text Formatting When writing an email, start with a greeting such as "Dear Mrs. Black,". State the reason for your email and thank the recipient for their previous email. End the email with "Your sincerely" and your name. Formal Letter: Correct Text Formatting When writing a formal letter, include a letterhead, date, special marking, inside address, attention line, salutation, subject line, body of the letter, complimentary close, signature, and enclosure. In the body of the letter, state your interest in gaining experience and how it will benefit you personally and professionally. Mention your current studies and language abilities. Enclose your curriculum vitae. End the letter with "Yours sincerely" and your name.
