Beneatha + Asagai Analyse the conversation between Beneatha & Asagai. Focus on the main topic of the scene and how he tries to Influence her The given extract, taken from Act 1, scene 2 of the play "a raisin in the Sun" deals with Assimilationism and with Asagai trying to Influence her by pointing out things about her looks. after a long time Asagai and Beneatha are old school Friend who wanted to meet up again, and when Asagai came back he wanted to suprise Beneatha with Presents in form of Traditional clothing from Nigeria. Atter Beneatha opend up her Presents, and showed him how thankfull she is, Asagai started to point out things about Beneathas looks. He began to say her hair locks mulilated and not Natural and cuen told her she's being an Assimilationist. At this point she got very mod and they start a big Argument about her being a Assimilationist or not. Asagai is smart and clearly very dominant in this Argument because he keeps calm and is always asking Questions, so Beneatha questions him and thinks about him being right or not. He even confuses her by loughing it of (P.62) but then starting the Argument again. Ite always forms his expressions well by making her mad...

Beneatha is known to be the Independent and confident in the house, but she fell for him and got to mad because she's afraid he might be right about her. All in all, Asagai was trying to influence her opinion about Assimilationism, by being nice but at the same time telling her she looks bad that way.
