NARRATO R 1st person narrator: 3rd person narrator: S PLOT 1. A short story is a piece of prose fiction which can be read in one sitting 2. It mostly shows a decisive moment if the life -> the protagonist has to deal with a conflict 3. There is often a little action, hardly any character development, but we get a snapshot of life (slice-of-life-story) 4. The plot is not very complex - There is a typical structure of the plot A Exposition = introduction of setting, characters, general social background etc. B Rising action = development of the conflict C Climax = conflict reaches its highest point D Turning point = a change in conflict E Falling action = reduction of suspense, events and complications begin to resolve themselves F Ending: a) Denouement: conflict is resolved b) Open ending: conflict is not resolved, reader wonders what might happen next INTRODUCTION - title, topic, text-type - hypothesis -> what will be analysed? H 5. The short story often deals with a single plot 6. The number of characters is limited 7.
