Februar 2021 10:19 Vocab: ambiguity - 5th has more than one possible meanin and can be confusing-> Mehrdeutigkeit" ambiguous - more than one meaning → mehrdeutig" ambivalent-more than one feeling → zwiespältig" identity-being who ever a perso is that truly defines them ->you need to belong first is a constantly developing process →identity is constantly changing Definition: It is a constant process of developing this sense of belonging and while doing So, shaping your identity to the identity that truly defines you. A feeling of ambiguity: If one feels the feeling of insecurity and maybe being lost or even being torn between things. "feeling alienated" Why do we feel it? Today's society is very complex - always pressure to conform •People can be mean-bullying, →>can make you loose your sense of belonging • Not knowing what you want to do lateron in life → makes you feel left out •Being different (e.g. homosexual, transgender) →Some people won't accept you •Haven't found your true identity yet → but everybody else does → outcast •Having a diverse group of friends torn between multiple belongings" changes in your life graduating high school, change of perspectives, etc. • A clash between one's expectations and the reality they have to face •Self-perception is very low and comprimised Benefits of belonging:...

Everybody seeks a feeling of belonging, you want to be included La human need for happiness Effects of not belonging: · feeling lonely and uncomfortable wherever or whoever you are •feeling insecure and not accepted by your surroundings • Establish characteristics such as being introverted or not doing fun things anymore •Can even lead to illnesses. Self- actualization: achieving one's full potential, including creative activities •you feel comfortable and safe •you feel loved by the people who surround To a safe space because you belong you • being able to share interests, hobbies, etc. with other people who maybe belong to the same sports club (eg.) as you •makes you feel confident and resilient because other people accept you ·acceptance in Society → → not having to worry about judgement If one struggles with the feeling of not belonging, they struggle with the aspect of not findling their identity at the same time. Esteem needs: prestige and feeling of accomplishment Belongingness and love needs: intimate relationships, friends Safety needs: security, safety • Having a feeling of belonging is essential for establishing and finding one's true identity because always worrying about other things hinder you from focusing on yourself. 2 Theories of Belonging O Maslow's thierarchy of Needs! Physiological needs: food, water, warmth, rest such as mental illnesses, eating disorders, etc. •can cause bullying or exclusion from your peers because they see you 'different" as Self-fulfillment needs •·Raises the pressure of today's society because everybody strives to find their place to belong to and if you can't find it you obviously feel left out Behavioural problems such as crime, rudeness, etc. Psychological needs Basic needs • He seperates human needs in 5 categories who are all fundmental for humans. 47 to reach their full potential •The base for human needs are the basic needs" O food, water, clothes,... living in a safe and secured environment •An individual can then move on to „psycholo- gical needs relationships, friends who give you the feeling of being loved and belonging self-esteem which gives you confidence and a feeling of accomplishment If all of these needs are fulfilled, an individual self-fulfillment-needs" can achieve the which make you " Creativity, activeness, reach your full potential 0 Self-Determination - Theory: Both theories seek this PRESEN • Autonomy • Competence • Relatedness Experience of Fosters • Volition • Motivation • Engagement Basic needs need to be fulfilled first, before one can find their identity. • Enhanced •It's a psychological theory that describes the formation /development of one's identity •3 basic needs need to be fulfilled first' ↳ Becoming clear about your ambitions performance. Persistence -> Autonomy → being in charge of yourself Ⓒ Competence → doing sth successfully Relatedness being connected to others and important to them •An individual can then move on with being engaged, successfull and achieve their full potential by finding their identity. •Making social connections 47 Family and Friends • Talking / opening up to someone you trust. • Widlening your view on things • • Creativity Self-acceptance ↳ values/morals. •By slowly finding your identity. 5₂ Result in But how can we fix this feeling? By following after your interests and doing what you love Promotes finding your identity, •Figuring out what you want to do later in life Taking more options into perspective •Being proud of yourself and who you are or who you're becoming Gorigin Being patient and open-minded is key because finding your true self takes time and is an ongoing process
