● Compromises ● more financial support for the immigrants' countries of origin/less wealthy countries → lessen push-factors (e.g. poverty, unemployment, economic aspects) less people will feel the need to migrate to the US involving those countries in the successful economy of the US by relocating production sites of companies in their country offer jobs with fair pay and good working conditions less poverty and unemployment (push factors) more control over who enters the country and for what reasons those who "really need to" can enter (e.g. war, political persecution) but not those who "don't need to" (e.g looking for better jobs/education/success) Not finding a compromise ● Although some of the arguments that were used by you were quite convincing and made me rethink the way I view this issue, they did not lead to me changing my opinion. Well, I think it has become obvious that our opinions about this issue differ a lot from each other, so I believe that there is no point in continuing this discussion, as neither of us has succeeded in convincing the other. Although I have found this discussion quite interesting, I'd like to express that I no longer think this discussion is very productive, as we have both presented our perspective and have not found any aspects that we can agree one. supporter David O'Connor, 55, business man for a big company in the nearest large city ancestors came from Ireland in the 1840s ● ● ● O o They were suffering from hunger and were drawn to the US because of the American Dream. They were desperate to have a better life in freedom. lives near the Southern border of the US O property is destroyed by immigrants who want to move further North without getting caught by the police child in school O is held back because there are children from immigrant families in their class that don't know the language well, get all the attention from the teachers neighbor, who is unemployed O He doesn't have a college degree and has not been able to find even low paying jobs because they are all taken by immigrants. crime in city O Since immigration from Central America has increased, there has been a lot of crime in my city. I no longer feel safe here. ● ● pro Arguments on Immigration better medical care available, opportunity to save people's lives Everyone gets a good education. → spread of democracy in their country of origin, ideology of A.D. With the undocumented immigrants buying products in the US, the country looks more successful because they have more profit, even though the official number of citizens hasn't risen. They do jobs that most Americans wouldn't do for little money → Americans have to pay less → can focus on successful jobs They would pay taxes if they were able to, but the system doesn't allow that. In this Christian country we should love each other and take care of one another/express compassion/ be compassionate. With the exception of Native Americans, everyone in the US has ancestors that were once immigrants, so they should welcome us now as well. According to the Declaration of Independence, the pursuit of happiness is a natural right. contra no control of diseases spreading in the country They don't have a high level of education/don't know the language. → hold back others at school It is difficult to calculate how much products need to be made when the official number of citizens is inaccurate. Current unemployed Americans would be able to do these jobs. → less unemployment don't pay taxes (don't contribute to the things that they want to receive) I don't feel any hate towards you, but I think it is significant to be fair to everyone and I do not think it is just that you are able to illegally live in this country. God wants justice for everyone. Our ancestors formed the culture here in the US. They might have been immigrants back then, but we all have always lived in America. You don't know what the American culture is like. The natural rights only apply to American citizens and not to the immigrants. The Declaration of Independence was written for Americans. ● Arguments on DACA pro number of immigrants can be documented (Dreamers and their parents due to extra program) not a program created for new immigrants, but for young people that are already a part of the American society The young people aren't responsible for their parents' decision to come to the US. They will grow up in the US and feel more connected to the the American culture and also learn the language more easily. The children need to protected because they can't yet take care of themselves. contra still many more illegal immigrants that are not a part of DACA → number remains unknown may tempt even more people to come to the US because of the good perspective for the children As it wasn't their decision, they might not be willing to become a part of the culture. They are going to stay in the US and have their own family and therefore contribute to the constant increase in population. Their parents brought them to the US so it should be their responsibility to protect them, not ours. ● ● ● Arguments on Building the Wall contra Building the wall has already cost $7 billion and is estimated to cost another $50 billion. money could be used to improve the situation in the immigrants' countries of origin It is selfish to only think about benefiting your own country when other nations experience far more issues with unemployment and poverty. It has been shown that the majority of immigrants don't enter the country over the border, but rather legally enter the country and then overstay their visa. The wall does not resolve the actual issue. Clearly, not all the Mexicans are gang members or even criminals. If you were always treated as a criminal, maybe your emotions would also lead you to negative actions. pro • Although we have a high expense for building the wall, we also loose $13 billion every year because of the immigrants not paying taxes. If we build the wall, we will guarantee our citizens freedom and safety. The value of that can not be measured in money. Building the wall will create more jobs for Americans which will decrease poverty. Immigration has already been decreased by about 20% in the last ten years due to the current wall. After we complete the wall, it will be even less. We do not expect the wall to completely stop immigration, but it will contribute to the other work we do to stop immigrants from coming or to send the ones that are already here back to their country of origin. The wall will hinder more gang members from Mexico from entering the US, because there will no longer have direct access to the neighboring country.
