Now: tidier (1. 4) + growing a beard gave away/ donated possessions to charity shops (11. 119-120) => minimalistic, social - sharp tongue (1. 19) => father is afraid of him (1. 18) - sullen + watchful (1. 110) - seals himself of from other people (11. 14-15) }e - given up sports (11. 57-58) - not talking to Parvez (1. 57). - strong islamic believes -> strict muslim + praying 5 times a day (11. 130-131) seems withdrawn - disgusting his father - giving up studies for helping poor Muslims in prison => strict Muslim who hates the western culture (11. 209-222) Opinion on life/being an immigrant: - hating being an immigrant -> not feeling welcomed/accepted + nobody believing in what he believes. - humans should follow the rules of the islam, mistakes are not okay - living for the cause (11. 226-227) => Afterlife in Paradise Fitting descriptions: - self-confident (1. 325) - social - against violence (11. 371-376). - intelligent/smart - good-looking (1. 331) - strict muslim/religious => strict believes -> against western culture - sensitive but able to control himself and his emotions Reasons for people to become radical in their views It keeps the person mentally grounded - The internet provides racical views - People who do not feel respected / accepted by the society are looking for new perspectives in life - Changes in life (loss of loved ones, violence) - Victims of mobbing, inequality, injustice - Extremists offer support, mental support - No perspectives for their future - Social segregation. - Feeling of rootlessness, they do not know to which culture they belong, do not feel at home in both cultures - In case of Ali: His father did not teach him the rules of Islam, lack of knowledge on Islam There are many opportunities in a pluralistic society, some young people are unable to cope with so many possibilities ->that is why some young people ask for strict rules, extremist theories offer these rules
