WHAT IS A CHARACTERIZATION? - description of: -> A character's physical traits (how a character looks) -> A character's personality -> A character's thoughts -> A character's actions DIRECT AND INDIRECT CHARACTERIZATION DIRECT AND INDIRECT CHARACTERIZATION Direct Characterizaton: - describes the character trough their physical description, line of work or passions and pursuits Eg. SUMMARY Indirect Characterization: - describes a character trough their thoughts, actions speech and dialogues - the reader drews conclusion about their characteristics E.g. When Jane walked in the room, nobody could help but look at her stunning, gorgeous face. When writing a direct characterization the writer makes direct statements about a character's personality and tells what the character is like. When writing an indirect characterization the writer reveals information about a character and his personality through that character's thoughts, words and actions, along with how characters respond to that character, including what they think and say about him.
