She shall not be moved- Handout Summary The narrator and her daughter Mariam are sitting in a bus; two white women are sitting on fold-up seats for people with prams and pretend to not see the Somali woman who is holding a pram in one hand and is carrying her toddler in the other one ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ Characters Narrator: The narrator points out the empty seats opposite to the women, they could move to and make space for the disabled Somali woman -> but they don't respond Instead, they start to pronounce racial expressions The black bus driver comes to the Somali woman and yells at her because she is standing in the aisle Later, the narrator feels upset, because she didn't help the Somali woman even though she always taught her daughter to stand up for against wrongdoings ■ The narrator tells the Somali woman to report the bus driver about the discrimination -> she answers that she is just a slave Mariam always wanted to say something to the old women ->wants to stand up ■ Young mother ■ ■ Polite Well-raised ■ Against racism and violence Not brave enough to stand up against the two women and the driver ■ Lives in London; is a migrant as well ■ Mariam: Has dance lessons Important character Wants to stand up against the two bullies Somali woman: ■ White women: ■ ■ ■ ■ Bus driver: ■ 2 ■ Intolerant In their...
